Summary Report of the International Conference on New Diamond and Nanocarbon Materials
On May 22-26, 2016, the "International Conference on New Diamonds and Nanocarbon Materials" hosted by the Ministry of Education and Xi'an Jiaotong University was grandly held at Xi'an Jiaotong University. More than 400 experts and scholars from 22 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Russia, Japan, Italy, etc., participated in the international conference. This conference is also one of the series of activities for the 120th anniversary celebration of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
Academician Hou Xun from the School of Telecommunications at Xi'an Jiaotong University served as the honorary chairman of this conference, and Professor Wang Hongxing, a specially appointed expert of the National Thousand Talents Program and director of the Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Materials and Devices Research Center at Xi'an Jiaotong University, served as the chairman of the conference. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Wang Hongxing. Professor Wang Shuguo, President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, attended the meeting and delivered a welcoming speech. He warmly welcomed the representatives from home and abroad who attended the meeting on behalf of the university, and introduced the basic situation of Xi'an Jiaotong University and the construction goals of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Port under construction. He also welcomed more scholars and scientists to participate in the construction of the Western Jiaotong University Innovation Port and carry out extensive and in-depth cooperation.
The international conference arranged for Professor Sumio Iijima, the discoverer of carbon nanotubes, and Professor Yasuo Koide, the leader of the Nobel Prize team, to give a special invitation speech. Professor David Awschalom, the founder of semiconductor spintronics, was invited to attend the conference Professor Hiroshi Kawarada, Academician Li Shutang, Academician Du Jiangfeng Professor Robert Harmers S. Professor R. P. Silva is invited to give a speech at the conference. 50 experts from both domestic and international sources gave an Invited Speaker presentation. In addition, it also includes around 85 regular oral reports and around 265 display board reports.
The Wide bandgap Semiconductor Materials and Devices Research Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University holds a high position in the field of single crystal diamond growth and electronic device research domestically, and also has a high reputation internationally. In 2014, the Pan Pacific R&D and Industry International Alliance for Single Crystal Diamond and Its Electronic Devices was established at Xi'an Jiaotong University, with Professor Wang Hongxing as the Secretary General. The alliance brings together domestic and international experts and scholars in diamond semiconductors and key equipment, with the aim of promoting the development of single crystal diamonds and electronic devices in the Pan Pacific region.
Through the exchange and discussion of this high-level international conference, we have strengthened the dialogue and exchange between Chinese scholars and the international academic community in areas such as large-area single crystal diamond growth, diamond doping control, diamond electronic devices, NV center quantum control, biosensing, graphene, carbon nanotubes, and nanocarbon materials. At the same time, we have also expanded the influence of Xi'an Jiaotong University on the international academic stage.
This conference is jointly organized by Xi'an Jiaotong University, the Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Materials and Devices Research Center of the School of Telecommunications at Xi'an Jiaotong University, the China Vacuum Society, the Shaanxi Vacuum Society, Suzhou University, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology, the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, and the Pan Pacific R&D and Industry Alliance for Single Crystal Diamond and Its Electronic Devices.
